9 낮은 형제는 자기의 높음을 자랑하고
The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position.

10 부한 자는 자기의 낮아짐을 자랑할지니 이는 그가 풀의 꽃과 같이 지나감이라
But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower.

11 해가 돋고 뜨거운 바람이 불어 풀을 말리면 꽃이 떨어져 그 모양의 아름다움이 없어지나니 부한 자도 그 행하는 일에 이와 같이 쇠잔하리라
For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business.

12 시험을 참는 자는 복이 있나니 이는 시련을 견디어 낸 자가 주께서 자기를 사랑하는 자들에게 약속하신 생명의 면류관을 얻을 것이기 때문이라
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

13 사람이 시험을 받을 때에 내가 하나님께 시험을 받는다 하지 말지니 하나님은 악에게 시험을 받지도 아니하시고 친히 아무도 시험하지 아니하시느니라
When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;

14 오직 각 사람이 시험을 받는 것은 자기 욕심에 끌려 미혹됨이니
but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.

15 욕심이 잉태한즉 죄를 낳고 죄가 장성한즉 사망을 낳느니라
Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

16 내 사랑하는 형제들아 속지 말라
Don"t be deceived, my dear brothers.

17 온갖 좋은 은사와 온전한 선물이 다 위로부터 빛들의 아버지께로부터 내려오나니 그는 변함도 없으시고 회전하는 그림자도 없으시니라
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

18 그가 그 피조물 중에 우리로 한 첫 열매가 되게 하시려고 자기의 뜻을 따라 진리의 말씀으로 우리를 낳으셨느니라
He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

교회 공동체 안에 있는 낮은 형제(가난한 형제)와 부한 자가 각각 취해야 할 태도는 무엇입니까?(9~11절)

시험을 참는 자에게 하나님이 주시는 상급은 무엇입니까?(12절)

■ 연구와 묵상
13~14절에 언급되는 “시험”은 앞서 나온 “시험”(2, 12절)과 의미가 다릅니다. 그렇다면 하나님이 “사람이 시험을 받을 때에 내가 하나님께 시험을 받는다 하지 말라” 하신 이유는 무엇이겠습니까?(13~18절)

■ 느낀 점
온갖 좋은 은사와 온전한 선물을 내려 주시는 변함없으신 하나님이 내 아버지 되신다는 사실에 무엇을 느낍니까?

나는 예수 그리스도를 자랑하며 하나님의 자녀가 된 영적 권세를 자랑합니까, 학력이나 경제적 능력 등을 자랑합니까? 혹시 요즘 욕심에 끌려 시험당하고 있진 않습니까? 내면 깊숙한 곳에 죄가 자라고 있진 않은지, 진리의 말씀 앞에 점검해 보며 회개하는 시간을 가집시다.
